Privacy Policy

Sranan Handel is the trade name under which Daniël & van der Steede N.V. (KKF: 170883), Suriname, operates, registered as Sranan Handel Online. We respect your privacy and process personal data solely to operate, secure, and improve the platform. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why, how long we retain it, and what rights you have.

1. What data do we collect?

  • Account data: name, phone number, email address, language preference, and (if applicable) Google account details.
  • Listing and job data: title, description, price, category, district, photos, video, and the contact details (phone/WhatsApp) you provide.
  • Professional profile data: for Professionals - portfolio, trade(s), subscription tier, and reviews received.
  • Payment data: payment reference (e.g. SH-2026-00451), amount, chosen payment method, and the proof of payment you upload. We never store bank card or account details ourselves.
  • Technical data: IP address (logged at login, listing creation, and other key actions), device type, browser information, and usage statistics.
  • Communication data: WhatsApp and email notifications we send you (e.g. OTP codes, status updates); the content of conversations between users happens outside our platform and is not viewed or stored by us.

2. How do we use your data?

  • To create, manage, and secure your account (including WhatsApp OTP verification).
  • To publish, review, and moderate listings and jobs.
  • To process payments, review payment proofs, and prevent fraud.
  • To send you WhatsApp and email notifications, such as confirmations, reminders (e.g. listing or subscription expiry), and important status changes.
  • To detect and prevent abuse, spam, and illegal content, including via automated photo moderation.
  • To comply with legal and tax obligations towards Surinamese authorities.

3. Sharing with third parties

We only share data with service providers required to operate the platform, and only to the extent necessary for their service:

  • Twilio - for sending WhatsApp messages (OTP codes and notifications).
  • Email provider (SendGrid/Mailgun) - for transactional emails.
  • Cloudflare - for security, content delivery (CDN), and storage of photos/videos (R2).
  • AI moderation service - for automatically screening uploaded photos for inappropriate content.

We never sell your personal data to third parties and do not use it for third-party advertising purposes.

In the event of a well-founded suspicion of fraud or abuse, we may retain personal data and, to the extent legally required or permitted, share it with competent authorities, in accordance with Article 9 of our Terms & Conditions.

4. Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/SSL), secure storage, and restricted access for staff.

5. Retention period

We apply the following concrete retention periods:

  • Account and profile data: retained for as long as your account is active. After account deletion, this data and your active listings are permanently deleted within 30 days.
  • Payment data and proofs of payment: retained for 5 years in accordance with Surinamese law for administrative and tax purposes, even after your account is deleted.
  • Reviews: remain visible on the platform for as long as the underlying profile exists, unless removed in accordance with Article 14 of our Terms & Conditions.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your data. Account deletion can be requested directly via your account settings; this removes your profile and active listings within 30 days, subject to the retention periods above for administrative and tax data.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect new functionality or legislation. In the event of material changes, users will be notified at least 30 days in advance, in accordance with Article 2 of our Terms & Conditions. The date of the last change will be noted on this page.
